Flowserve
Flowserve Corporation is one of the world’s largest industrial and environmental machinery manufacturers. It has a rich history of developing sustainable technologies that started 230 years ago with the founding company Simpson & Thompson.
In 1997, Flowserve emerged as a result of the merger of two large motion and control manufacturers, Durco International and BW/IP. At present, Flowserve holds the most comprehensive portfolio of pumps, valves, and other fluid control products and has several big brands under its umbrella, including TKL, SIHI, Durco, and more.
THOMPSONS KELLY AND LEWIS (TKL)
Manufacturer of centrifugal pumps and steel castings. The brand was founded as Thompson & Co. in 1875 until it merged with Kelly & Lewis to form Thompsons, Kelly & Lewis (TKL) in 1987.TKL later became a subsidiary of Flowserve Corporation in 2004.
TKL offers comprehensive technology and advanced products that have been honed for over a century. Its proven designs give companies the most efficient solutions to their pumping needs. In addition to its innovations, TKL continues to produce replacement designs from the 1980s and 1990s, enabling simple changeouts of these heritage pumps without pipe modifications.
Centrifugal Pump - TKL EC Series
TKL’s EC Series is designed to handle large flow and high head conditions in mines and water transfer applications. The EC centrifugal pumps have a multistage, horizontally split-case configuration, making inspection and maintenance fast and easy.
Additionally, accessing the common wear parts wouldn’t require removing the motor or the suction and discharge connections. Their design allows for a lower net positive head required and lower axial thrust. The EC pumps can also be mounted horizontally or vertically, giving more installation flexibility.
Features & Benefits
- Horizontal split-case design allows easy access to internal parts
- Pump rotor can be removed without disturbing the motor or alignment
- Horizontal or vertical mounting provisions to suit application piping requirements
- Reduced friction wear with shaft sleeves between the stages and in the stuffing boxes
- Stuffing Boxes graphite impregnated packing allows leakage adjustment for long life
Available Options
Each EC pump can be customised according to your specific fluid transfer needs.
- Spare parts
- Base/mounting plates
- Sizes from 200mm to 600mm
Key Specifications
- Flows to 39,000 LPM or 2340 m3/h
- Heads to 650 m
- Pressures to 88 bar
- Temperatures from -30°C to 150°C
Principle of Operation
Fluid enters the suction line and falls on the impeller eye and is “centrifuged” (hence the name) to the impeller periphery, with assistance from the impeller vanes.
As the impeller rotates, it imparts kinetic energy onto the liquid surrounding it due to friction. The liquid moves towards the outer periphery of the impeller; its kinetic energy is then changed to pressure. The impeller has vanes separated by channels through which the liquid flows. Each channel has an increasing flow path area. As the flow path area expands, the liquid’s velocity decreases and the pressure increases.
For the EC pump with a multistage configuration, the process repeats as it goes through each stage until it reaches the discharge port.

Principle of Operation
The Terra Titan vertical slurry pump is a centrifugal pump. It transports fluids by the conversion of rotational kinetic energy to the hydrodynamic energy of the fluid flow. This type of rotational energy typically comes from an engine or electric motor. Fluids enter the rapidly rotating impeller along its axis and are cast out through centrifugal force along its circumference through the impeller’s vane tips. This action by the impeller increases the fluid’s velocity and pressure and also directs it toward the pump outlet. The pump casing is designed to constrict fluid from the pump inlet, direct it into the impeller, then slow and control the fluid before discharge.

DURCO CHEMICAL PROCESS PUMPS
Duriron Company (also known as Durco) started business in 1912 as an industrial components manufacturer. It became known for its technologies, setting the standard in handling extremely corrosive materials. During the First World War, Durco was the go-to of explosives manufacturers, where its “denitrating towers” became highly in demand for the safe handling of nitric and sulfuric acids. In World War II, the company devoted its efforts to supplying pumps and valves to produce atomic bombs.
Eighty-five years later, Durco acquired the California-based pump manufacturer BW/IP International, and the merger gave birth to the Flowserve Corporation in July 1997. At present, Durco serves as a brand under Flowserve, maintaining its expertise in designing and manufacturing chemical process pumps and valves.
