Albany Pumps
Albany Pumps by Albany Engineering Company is an established manufacturer in England. Being around since the early 1900s, Albany is a force to reckon with in the design and manufacture of high-quality positive displacement pumps, gear pumps, lobe pumps, and screw pumps.
Albany’s rotary gear pump was invented in 1901, which became the base model for other patents and products being developed today. Its modern gear pump can operate continuously for 100,000 hours without breaking down, making it the most reliable equipment to use on important lubrication duties.
Centrifugal Pumps
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
Centrifugal pumps impart energy to the liquid by means of a centrifugal force developed by the rotation of the impeller. First, the liquid is injected into the pump, through the pump casing and down the impeller eye. Velocity energy is imparted to the liquid through the centrifugal force produced by the rotating impeller. The liquid is radially pushed out towards the impeller periphery. The velocity energy of the liquid is converted to pressure energy by directing it to an expanding volute design casing. The pumps operate at relatively higher speeds thus permitting a high liquid flow. Because of these advantages, Albany centrifugal pumps are very in demand in almost all industries.
Albany’s Custom Centrifugal
Albany’s range of centrifugal pumps are ideal for a variety of situations. They can handle a range of temperatures up to 180 °C and can be manufactured in either cast iron, steel or stainless steel, with a range of added extra options for user convenience.
Available in either horizontal or vertically mounted options with a bearing bracket, these pumps can be easily removed for maintenance without disturbing driver, suction or delivery pipework.

Internal Lobe Pumps
ALBANY’s range of internal lobe pumps called L-type follow the concept of the original Stothert and Pitt Internal Lobe Pump. The company’s lobe pumps are engineered in a number of material combinations to handle different types of fluids.
These pumps boast extreme proficiency at pumping high viscosity liquids at low rotational speeds or low viscosity liquids at synchronous motor speeds. The Albany L range is ideal for several applications in the sugar industry, thanks to its ability to move high viscosity and abrasive products.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The pumping action of the rotary lobe pump is generated by the counter-rotation of two pumping elements called rotors within the rotor case. The timing gears and rotors are located on shafts, which in turn are mounted within an external gearbox and supported by bearings. The timing gears are responsible for transferring energy from the driveshaft to the driven shaft, synchronizing the rotors so that they rotate without contact with each other. As the rotors pass the suction port, the cavity generated increases creating a pressure decrease, which induces the pumped medium to flow into the rotor case.

Twin Screw Pumps
Albany Pumps S Series comprise high speed, quiet-running twin screw pump. The main markets for these pumps include the oil and marine industries as they have found that Twin Screw Pumps best meet their needs. The twin screw technology can efficiently handle a wide range of viscosities that are often encountered with hydrocarbon liquids at different temperature ranges.
Additionally, twin screw pumps have good gas handling characteristics, which is why they are often used for line stripping duties running alongside much larger pumps in refineries or ship loading.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
Twin screw pumps operate without metal-to-metal contact within the pump housing. As the pump rotates, the intermeshing of the two screws along with the pump housing form chambers. These chambers fill with the pumped fluid and move it from the suction side of the pump to the high-pressure discharge side of the pump.
FEATURES & BENEFITS
- Compact design with smooth and quiet operation
- Low resonance and noise level
- Excellent gas handling characteristics
- Hydraulically balanced allowing optimum efficiency
- Customisable to fit customer’s unique requirements
- Engineered using high-quality materials for longevity

External Gear Pumps
The Gear type pump range, known as ‘G’ type, refers to Albany’s family of External Gear Pumps. They are available in horizontal, vertical or tank top mount variations.
These pumps are often used as lubrication pumps in machine tools, in fluid power transfer units, and as oil pumps in engines. They have tighter internal clearances compared to other pump types, which allow more reliable measurement of liquid passing through the gears and greater flow control.

- Robust and very reliable
- Require little maintenance
- Compact construction but powerful pumping operation
- Capability to handle a range of temperatures and fluid types
- Highly customisable
